Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has provided clarity on Patrick Dorgu’s recovery, confirming the Denmark wing-back of Nigerian descent faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Dorgu sustained a hamstring injury two weeks ago, just as he was beginning to make a significant impact in United’s setup.
Speaking to reporters, Carrick outlined the expected duration of the setback.
“We’re working through it. It’ll definitely be a number of weeks, it will be a considerable period of time. He’s not going to be back in the next two or three weeks. To be more exact is a little bit difficult at this moment,” he said.
Carrick acknowledged the possibility that the 20-year-old could be sidelined for around 10 weeks.
“It could possibly, we’re working through it. Certainly looking forward to getting him back as quick as we can and getting on the pitch long before the end of the season,” he added.
The United boss emphasised the disappointment of losing a player in form but framed the injury within the broader context of Dorgu’s career.
“It’s a blow, it’s always a blow when you lose players and they can’t be involved… Especially when you’ve had an impact like Patrick did over the last few weeks. Unfortunately, football throws things up, there’s ups and downs.
“For this short period of time, he’s disappointed, he wants to be fit. But he’s going to have a career for the next 10 or 15 years and hopefully this is just a little moment for him.”
Carrick remains confident Dorgu will return stronger, praising his attitude and potential.
“Coming off the back of the huge positive he’s just had, I think when he comes back, he’ll be even stronger again,” he said.
The injury is a setback for Manchester United, who are relying on their young talent to bolster a campaign focused on Champions League qualification.
Dorgu’s return will be eagerly anticipated as Carrick looks to reintegrate him into the squad during the season’s crucial stages.
