Bryan Mbeumo scored as Manchester United secured a 2-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, marking the Red Devils’ fourth consecutive league win.
The Cameroonian winger broke the deadlock just before halftime, helping United continue their strong form under interim manager Michael Carrick.
Since taking over from Ruben Amorim, Carrick’s side has shown signs of improvement, adding victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, and Fulham to their recent results.
United started the match without the injured Matthijs de Ligt, while Tyrell Malacia, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui were on the bench.
From the first whistle, the home side pressed high, with Mbeumo nearly opening the scoring in the opening minute. Casemiro and Matheus Cunha also came close, but were denied by Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
The match took a decisive turn after 30 minutes when Tottenham were reduced to ten men. Cristian Romero received a straight red card for a late challenge that caught Casemiro’s ankle. Down a player, Spurs struggled to cope with United’s intensity.
Just before halftime, United capitalised on their numerical advantage. From a well-worked corner, Bruno Fernandes passed to Kobbie Mainoo, who found Mbeumo unmarked in the box. The Cameroonian slotted the ball into the side netting to give United the lead.
In the second half, Manchester United continued to dominate. Amad Diallo thought he had doubled the lead early on, but the Ivory Coast international’s strike was ruled offside.
Tottenham had few opportunities, with the best coming from Simons, whose long-range effort grazed the post. Another United goal by Cunha was also disallowed for offside.
Nine minutes from time, Bruno Fernandes sealed the win with a second valid goal, confirming the 2-0 victory.
The result moves Manchester United firmly into fourth place in the Premier League, strengthening their position in the race for next season’s Champions League, while Tottenham remain 14th in a disappointing campaign.
