Al-Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour has firmly denied recent statements that were circulated in the media as coming from him.
The player clarified that he never gave any interview to the person who attributed the remarks, dismissing the reports as entirely false.
In a post on his Instagram account, Ashour said: “Any words said on my behalf or attributed to me did not happen. I did not issue any of what was reported, and I am not responsible for them. The interview itself never took place.”
He added: “With all due respect, my focus is entirely on my training and my work. The interest of my team comes first, above all talk. Thank you.”
Ashour will also be absent from Al-Ahly’s upcoming trip to Algeria. The club’s football management imposed a two-week individual training penalty following his absence from the team’s recent trip to Tanzania to face Young Africans.
The controversy follows statements made by Saleh Gomaa on the “MBC Egypt 2” channel, in which he discussed Ashour, suggesting that the midfielder has personal ambitions at the club and feels he is being treated unfairly.
Gomaa claimed that Ashour seeks better treatment and recognition within the team, both financially and professionally.
