The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strengthened the Black Stars’ technical team with the appointment of five seasoned professionals as preparations gather momentum for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Leading the new additions is French coach Alain Ravera, who joins the national team as Assistant Coach. Ravera arrives with extensive international experience, having previously served in the same role with the Guinea national team and French top-flight side AS Monaco. His appointment is expected to inject fresh tactical insight into the Black Stars’ setup.
Also named Assistant Coach is Kim Lars Björkegren, the current Head Coach of the Black Queens. The Swedish tactician recently guided Ghana’s women’s national team to a bronze medal at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and secured qualification for the 2026 tournament. He will continue in his role with the Black Queens, with his dual appointment highlighting the GFA’s trust in his technical acumen and leadership.
The GFA has further bolstered its backroom staff with the appointment of Spanish analyst José Daniel Martínez Alfonso to enhance scouting, match preparation and performance analysis. Martínez Alfonso currently serves as an assistant coach and video analyst with Major League Soccer side Atlanta FC and is expected to play a key role in advancing the Black Stars’ data-driven approach.
The medical department has also been reinforced with the return of physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero, who previously worked with the team during Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar. His reappointment brings valuable continuity and experience to the squad.
The latest appointments underscore the GFA’s commitment to building a robust technical and support structure capable of competing at the highest level. With World Cup qualification firmly in focus, the expanded backroom team is expected to provide the expertise and stability needed to drive the Black Stars’ ambitions on the road to 2026.
