Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has expressed confidence that Ademola Lookman’s best football is still ahead of him.
The Nigerian winger joined Atletico from Serie A side Atalanta during the January transfer window, and he made an immediate impression.
Lookman marked his debut in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals with a goal as Atletico thrashed Real Betis 5-0.
After the match, Simeone lauded Lookman’s performance, noting both his distinctive style and potential to make a lasting impact.
“His qualities speak for themselves. He’s different from any player we currently have, excellent in one-on-one situations but also strong in team play.
“He’s already had a positive impact, and we can help him develop further while he helps the team grow,” Simeone said.
Having opened his account for Atletico so quickly, Lookman will look to build on his momentum when the side face Real Betis again at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
