Liverpool will pay Chelsea an initial £2.8 million for 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, with the total fee potentially rising to £6.8 million through performance-related add-ons.

Ngumoha left Chelsea’s academy to join Liverpool in September 2024, when he was just 16, which entitled Chelsea to training compensation under Premier League rules.

The final amount was set by a Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) tribunal, making the settlement binding and not open to negotiation between the clubs.

Liverpool could owe a further £4 million if various milestones are met, including senior appearances, contract extensions, and international honours achieved by the highly rated youngster.

The agreement also includes a 20% sell-on clause on any future profit Liverpool make if Ngumoha is sold later in his career, ensuring Chelsea remain financially invested in his development.

The structured deal reflects how much both clubs value Ngumoha’s potential, with Liverpool securing one of the most talked-about teenagers in English football and Chelsea safeguarding a significant upside should he flourish at Anfield and beyond.
