Veteran coach Claude Le Roy has identified the Moroccan national team deficiency, stressing the Atlas Lions lacks a player capable of scoring decisive and impactful goals in matches.

The French coach was in attendance when Senegal triumphed over Morocco to annex their second Africa Cup of Nations tournament, amid controversial events that saw the Taranga Lions temporarily withdraw in protest against the awarding of a penalty kick which was later missed by Ibrahim Diaz.

At the tournament, the North African powerhouse relied heavily on Real Madrid star, Brahim Diaz for goals despite not being a typical striker. He racked up five goals to secure the goal king at the tournament.

Assessing the Moroccan national team, Le Roy, who has spent a chunk of coaching career on the African continent stressed the Atlas Lions fall short in attack, undermining their scoring abilities at tournaments.

“Morocco has a great team and is capable of achieving great things, and the tactical change by including Sofyan Amrabat and Nael El Aynaoui was very important.”

“Ultimately, Morocco still needs to clearly establish a striker position, a player capable of scoring decisive and impactful goals, because the team needs higher attacking quality in this particular position.

The 77-year-old manager has previously led several national teams on the continent, including Cameroon, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Congo, and Togo, achieving numerous accomplishments that have left a mark on the history of African football.
