Moroccan striker Yasser Zoubiry has taken a major step forward in his career after French side Rennes confirmed his signing from Portuguese outfit Famalicão on Monday evening.
The forward has committed to a three-and-a-half-year contract in a deal reportedly worth around €10 million, making him one of Rennes’ standout additions during the winter transfer window.
Speaking after completing the move, Zoubiry expressed his delight at joining the Ligue 1 side, explaining that Rennes’ vision and track record in developing young talents played a decisive role in his decision.
He noted that discussions with both former and current Rennes players further strengthened his belief that he had made the right choice, insisting, “I am in the right place.”
Zoubiry arrives in France following a productive spell in Portugal, where he steadily established himself with Famalicão. This season, he found the net four times, taking his overall tally since joining the club in 2024 to seven goals in 20 appearances, form that attracted interest from several European teams.
He is widely regarded as one of the emerging stars of Moroccan football, having played a key role in Morocco’s historic triumph at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup. Zoubiry finished the tournament as top scorer with five goals, including a decisive brace in the final against Argentina that sealed Morocco’s first-ever world title.
The striker developed his game at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Rabat before gaining further experience with Union Touarga, foundations that helped shape his technical and mental attributes. At Rennes, he will wear the number 77 shirt, symbolising the start of a new chapter in his professional journey.
