Ali Dembélé: Right-back linked with Italy move to Mantova

Ali Dembélé has completed a loan move from Torino to Mantova, joining the Serie B side from the Serie A club on 2026-02-02. The 22-year-old right-back arrives on a temporary deal classified as a “loan transfer,” with an agreed return to Torino scheduled for 2026-06-30, confirming that this is a short-term switch rather than a permanent exit.

The transfer places the French-Malian defender, currently valued at €800k, into Italy’s second tier, where he will look to secure regular senior minutes. Mantova gain a tall, athletic full-back listed at 1.89 m, whose main position is right-back but who is broadly categorised as a defender. Torino retain his rights and will reassess his situation when the loan expires, at which point he is set to go back to the Granata following the end of the agreement.

Dembélé’s move continues a career path that has largely unfolded in Italy in recent years. After emerging from ESTAC Troyes’ youth system in France — progressing from ESTAC Troyes Formation to the U17 and then U19 teams — he crossed the Alps to join Torino Primavera in 2017-07-01. He was promoted from Torino’s youth ranks to the senior setup on 2023-07-01, before being sent on his first Italian loan to Venezia in Serie B on 2023-09-01. That spell ended with his formal return to Torino on 2024-06-30.

His market value trajectory underlines his development. It was first recorded at €200k with Torino Primavera, then rose to €250k and €300k during his time at Venezia. Back at Torino, his value climbed as high as €900k in mid-2025 before settling at €800k by late 2025, the figure attached to him at the time of this latest loan to Mantova. The consistent upward trend reflects how clubs and observers in Italy rate his potential, even if he has yet to fully establish himself in Serie A.

Born in Villepinte and holding both French and Malian nationality, Dembélé now continues his professional journey abroad from his home footballing environment, operating in Italian leagues rather than in France or Mali. He has already featured in both Serie A and Serie B structures through Torino and Venezia, and Mantova now become the latest stop on a career that has been built almost entirely within organised professional systems.

His current estimated value and repeated loans suggest Torino still see him as an asset worth developing rather than discarding. With his return to Torino already scheduled at the end of the loan term on 2026-06-30, the coming months at Mantova are poised to be decisive in determining whether he can turn potential into a long-term role at the top level or whether further moves — including the possibility of future loans or an eventual free-agency scenario beyond his current contractual cycle — will shape the next phase of his career.
