Loïc Etoga has completed a permanent move from SC Bastia to FC Villefranche-Beaujolais, signing on a free transfer from the Ligue 2 side. The Cameroon defensive midfielder joins the Championnat National club with a contract running from 2026-02-02 to 2027-06-30, ending his spell in Corsica and opening a new chapter in the French third tier.

The transfer sees Villefranche pick up a 22-year-old midfielder currently valued at €300k without paying a fee, a notable piece of business for a National side. Etoga arrives from Bastia, who play in Ligue 2, and will now compete in the Championnat National as FC Villefranche look to strengthen their spine for the 2025–26 campaign and beyond.

Born on 01 Apr 2003 in Nkol Megnegue, Cameroon, Etoga stands 1.87 m tall and operates primarily as a defensive midfielder, with his main position listed as midfield – defensive midfield and a preference for his right foot. He holds Cameroonian nationality and has built his professional career entirely abroad to date, progressing through European and French football rather than the domestic leagues in his home country.

Etoga’s path to Villefranche has been steady and international in scope. After time with AS International Academie Sport in Cameroon, he first moved to Europe with a loan spell at Olympiakos Volou in Greece. He then returned to the Cameroonian academy before transferring to Dijon FCO B in France. That internal promotion to Dijon FCO’s first team followed, and his market value steadily rose there, climbing from €25k at Olympiakos Volou to €250k at Dijon, according to Transfermarkt’s valuations, before reaching €400k during his stint at Bastia and later settling at €300k.

From Dijon, Etoga made the jump to SC Bastia, moving into Ligue 2 and gaining experience in the French professional system. His most recent valuation updates while at Bastia reflect a player who had become a recognised asset within the French second division, with consistent values of €400k before adjusting down to €300k in 2025.

Now, by joining FC Villefranche-Beaujolais in the Championnat National, Etoga trades the intensity of Ligue 2 for a club where he is likely to play a central role in midfield. The move also underlines his status as a Cameroonian international export, continuing his career abroad in France rather than returning to play in his home country. With his contract tied to Villefranche through to 2027-06-30, the transfer gives both player and club a stable platform for development.

Etoga’s experience across different levels – from a Greek loan to French reserve football, then Ligue 2 with Bastia – offers Villefranche a physically imposing, battle-tested midfield presence. If he continues the upward trajectory shown in his market value history and adapts quickly to the demands of the Championnat National, this free transfer could prove a significant step in consolidating his reputation in European football and shaping the next phase of his career.
