Paris FC midfielder Maxime Lopez has ruled out representing the Algerian national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Foot Mercato, the former Marseille player does not believe his international future lies with the Desert Warriors.
Algeria recently endured disappointment at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, exiting the tournament at the quarter final stage following a 2 0 defeat to Nigeria.
Despite Algeria securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup and being drawn in Group 10 alongside Argentina, Jordan and Austria, Lopez has made it clear that he will not be part of the squad.
The midfielder, who is eligible to represent Algeria through his mother, confirmed his stance during an interview with Ligue 1+.
“Since I was young, I have always talked about the French national team. I have reached an age where I must be rational.”
“There are more local players who have a stronger connection than me, and they are more deserving of joining. My decision is well thought out, and I discussed it with those close to me,” he said.
While closing the door on an international switch, the Paris FC player was keen to express his respect and support for Algeria.
“I support the national team and wish them all the best in the future, but I will not be playing for the Algerian national team,” he added.
