James Bogere has completed a permanent move from Ugandan side Masaka Sunshine to Danish club Aarhus GF U19, signing on a free transfer with a contract running from 2026-02-02 to 2028-06-30.
The 18-year-old centre-forward joins the youth set-up of the Aarhus club after rising through Ugandan football, with Masaka Sunshine his most recent employer and El Cambio Academy his previous youth base. The transfer places him in the U19 Boys League in Denmark, marking a clear step into European football for the Uganda-born attacker.
Bogere arrives in Aarhus with a reported market value of €50k, reflecting the status he had already begun to build at Masaka Sunshine in Ugandan domestic competition. Standing at 1.86 m and operating primarily as a centre-forward, he strengthens the attacking options for Aarhus GF U19 as they compete in Denmark’s top U19 competition.
Before this move, Bogere had been part of Masaka Sunshine’s squad in Uganda, having joined them from El Cambio Academy. His rise through those local structures led to the valuation update in late 2025, when his market value was recorded at €50k while still at Masaka Sunshine. The step from a Ugandan club with no registered league on record into a structured European youth league marks a significant change in competitive environment and exposure.
This transfer also formalises his current club status: Bogere is now registered with Aarhus GF U19, where he is listed as a centre-forward in the attack. His national team entry at youth level is linked to Aarhus GF U19, indicating that his development pathway is now anchored in Denmark rather than Uganda, even though he retains Ugandan nationality.
For Ugandan football, the confirmed move of an 18-year-old forward directly into a European club’s U19 structure represents another example of the export of young talent from local academies and emerging clubs. El Cambio Academy and Masaka Sunshine both appear in his transfer history, underscoring the role of domestic development institutions in preparing players for opportunities abroad.
From the Danish side, Aarhus GF U19 secure a low-risk, cost-free addition with potential resale value, as the transfer fee has been recorded as a free transfer. With no fee paid and a defined contract period through to 2028-06-30, the club has time to integrate Bogere into their system, assess his adaptation to the U19 Boys League and decide on any future progression within the Aarhus setup.
If Bogere adapts well to the pace, physicality and tactical demands of Danish youth football, this confirmed move could be a foundation for a professional career in Europe, raising both his individual profile and the reputation of the Ugandan development pathways that produced him.
