Moussa Sissoko has completed a move from Watford to Panathinaikos, signing for the Greek Super League 1 club on a deal running from 02/02/2026 until 30/06/2027. The experienced central midfielder joins the Athens side after leaving the Championship outfit, where his future had been uncertain in the final stages of his contract.
The transfer sees Sissoko, valued at €300k at the time of the move, leave English football once again for a new challenge abroad. The fee has been listed as undisclosed, with Transfermarkt recording it as “?” in their data, but the deal has been finalised and registered, placing the 36‑year‑old immediately at the disposal of Panathinaikos for their ongoing Super League 1 campaign.
Sissoko arrives in Greece as a seasoned midfield option, primarily operating in central midfield and favouring his right foot. Born in Le Blanc-Mesnil and holding both French and Malian nationality, he adds international profile and considerable top-level experience to Panathinaikos’ squad. His move also reinforces the trend of veteran European players extending their careers in the Greek top flight.
The midfielder’s career trajectory underlines the calibre of Panathinaikos’ acquisition. After emerging at Toulouse, where his market value rose sharply during his early years, Sissoko secured a switch to Newcastle United in the Premier League. His performances there earned him a further high-profile transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, where his value peaked at around €25m and he became a regular presence in one of England’s leading sides. Subsequent spells at Watford in the Premier League and Championship and then FC Nantes in Ligue 1 kept him in major European competitions before his value gradually declined with age, eventually settling at €300k shortly before this move.
From a league perspective, Sissoko has already featured in Ligue 1, the Premier League and the Championship, and now adds the Greek Super League 1 to his résumé. For Panathinaikos, his arrival offers depth in the middle of the park and a player accustomed to high-tempo, physically demanding football. For the player, it represents another step in a long career that has taken him across France and England and now into a new football culture in Greece.
With the contract confirmed through to 30/06/2027, Sissoko’s medium-term future is secured in Athens. The coming seasons in Super League 1 will determine how effectively he can translate his extensive experience and leadership into consistent performances for Panathinaikos and how this late-career move will shape the final chapter of his professional journey.
