Manchester United full-back Noussair Mazraoui has returned to Carrington in strong form after Morocco’s narrow loss to Senegal in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, manager Michael Carrick has said.
The 28-year-old defender faced a difficult period following the 1-0 defeat in Morocco, which required a few days to process. Carrick praised Mazraoui’s resilience and attitude since returning to the club.
“Yes, he’s come back strong,” Carrick said. “It was difficult, obviously, after the final and how it unfolded. He had a few days to process it, then he came back strong. He’s been fantastic within the group and in training.”
Mazraoui, who played a limited role in the AFCON final, was quickly reintegrated into Manchester United’s squad and contributed positively to the team’s recent performances. Carrick highlighted the importance of Mazraoui’s presence, both on and off the pitch.
“Obviously, he came on late in the game and contributed to our victory, as expected. So yes, once again, [we want] to continue to build up the squad, to strengthen it, and it’s great to have him back,” Carrick added.
Mazraoui’s swift recovery from the disappointment of the continental final underscores the support system at Manchester United and the club’s commitment to helping players manage setbacks.
His professional approach has allowed him to refocus on club duties, maintaining his high standards in training sessions and contributing to squad cohesion.
The Moroccan international’s return also comes at a crucial stage for Manchester United, as the team aims to consolidate its position in domestic and European competitions.
Carrick’s comments suggest that Mazraoui will remain an integral part of the squad as the club continues to pursue its objectives this season.
Mazraoui’s experience at AFCON, coupled with Manchester United’s supportive environment, highlights how elite players can overcome international disappointment while remaining effective at club level.
