Rulani Mokwena set for official Pyramids FC unveiling

Pyramids FC will officially unveil Rulani Mokwena as their new head coach on Tuesday as the Egyptian club begins preparations for the 2026/27 season.

Mokwena was appointed by Pyramids in July following his departure from Libyan side Al-Ittihad, continuing a rapid managerial journey that has seen him take charge of five clubs in three years.

The South African left Mamelodi Sundowns in 2024 to join Moroccan giants Wydad AC. His time in Morocco ended before the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign, after which he moved to Algerian club MC Alger ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Mokwena spent eight months in Algeria before leaving for Al-Ittihad in Libya, where his spell was also brief.

According to Egyptian publication El Balad, Pyramids will hold a press conference at 15:00 local time on Tuesday at the conference hall of the Air Defence Stadium.

Club president Mamdouh Eid and captain Hani Saeed are expected to attend the event, while the club will also introduce Mokwena’s technical staff.

Several members of the Pyramids squad are expected to be present at the unveiling, with the club planning a media training session afterwards as preparations for the new campaign continue.

Mokwena’s first competitive match in charge will come in the opening fixture of the 2026/27 Egyptian Premier League season against Ghazl El Mahalla.

Pyramids will be aiming to end their long wait for a maiden league title after finishing as runners-up for five consecutive seasons since 2021/22. The club had finished third in each of the previous three campaigns.

Mokwena will therefore begin his Pyramids tenure with the immediate task of challenging for domestic success while also building on the club’s recent rise as one of Egypt’s leading teams.
