The CAF Champions League group stage enters a potentially decisive fourth round on Friday, with several clubs eyeing a major step toward the quarterfinals.
Defending champions Pyramids host Morocco’s RS Berkane on Sunday at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium in a top-of-the-table clash in Group A.
Berkane lead the group with 7 points, ahead of Pyramids only on goal difference, while Rivers United and Power Dynamos have a single point each.
Pyramids, under Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurcic, are pushing to regain momentum after back-to-back draws against Berkane in the Champions League and El Gouna in the Egyptian league.
The team will lean on attacking talents like Fiston Mayele, Mohamed Chibi, Mostafa Fathi, Brazilian forward Everton, Mahmoud Abdel Hafiz Zalaka and Ahmed Atef Qatta. Berkane, coached by Tunisian tactician Mouine Chaabani, arrive in Cairo targeting three points and banking on players such as Youssef Mehri, Issoufou Dayo and Oussama El Mleioui.
In Group B, AS FAR and JS Kabylie both chase their first win, while Al Ahly travel to face Young Africans aiming to edge closer to qualification from top spot.
Elsewhere, Sudan’s Al Hilal hope to spring an upset against leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in Group C, as ES Tunis visit Simba and Petro Luanda host Stade Malien in tightly balanced Group D contests.
