Kylian Mbappe did not hide his frustration after Real Madrid’s 4–2 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League, calling the fourth goal “shameful” for the team.

The French striker scored twice in Lisbon, but it was Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin’s long-range stoppage-time strike that hurt the most.

“That last goal doesn’t change anything in terms of the result, but for us it looks shameful. Conceding from the goalkeeper hurts,” he said.

“We were lacking a little bit of everything – aggression, concentration and quality of play. There are no small things in the Champions League: if you don’t go out on the pitch at your best, you get punished.

“We’re not out yet. Things are going well in the league, and if the Bernabeu is with us, we can come back stronger,”

Despite the defeat, Real Madrid finished the league phase in 9th with 15 points after eight games.

Real Madrid will now wait for the qualification playoffs phase. They lost three and won two in their last five games.
