Former Zamalek SC football director Wael El-Qabbani has reaffirmed the club’s stature as one of Egypt’s footballing powerhouses, insisting that it should never be underestimated, even amid challenging circumstances. He stressed that the White Castle remains a serious contender for the Egyptian Premier League title.
Speaking on television, El-Qabbani highlighted that Zamalek continues to be a favorite in every match. Currently positioned in the top four and just a point behind rivals Al-Ahly, the team remains firmly in the title race.
He also commended head coach Moataz Gamal, describing him as a courageous leader whose post-match comments reflect his strong personality. El-Qabbani praised Gamal’s approach of holding players accountable for their mistakes without favoritism and said the team’s recent performance demonstrated effective match management.
On the pitch, El-Qabbani singled out Adam Kaidi, noting that the player narrowly missed an opportunity for a world-class goal. He praised Kaidi’s technical skill and quick reactions, suggesting it could have been one of the season’s standout strikes.
Addressing rumors about Mohamed Shehata’s potential departure, El-Qabbani expressed his disapproval. He argued that the focus should be on strengthening the squad rather than selling key players, emphasizing Shehata’s importance to the team.
El-Qabbani warned that offloading star players as a solution to financial challenges is counterproductive, particularly after Nasser Maher’s exit. He noted that losing crucial players would weaken the squad and require costly replacements, making such a move illogical at this stage.
