Morocco and Lille striker Hamza Igamane has successfully undergone surgery on his right knee following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.
The injury occurred during the Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat against Senegal. Igamane had come on as a late substitute in extra time but was forced off shortly after sustaining a heavy challenge.
Medical examinations confirmed the seriousness of the injury, prompting immediate surgical intervention earlier this week.
Igamane took to social media to update fans, expressing gratitude for their support and vowing to return stronger.
“It’s a tough moment, but I’ll fight to come back. Thank you for all the messages,” Igamane wrote.
The 23-year-old forward faces several months on the sidelines, ruling him out of Morocco’s 2026 World Cup preparations and leaving Lille with a gap in attack.
French media reports indicate that the club is already exploring options to bring in a forward during the winter transfer window.
It remains unclear whether Igamane will be ready for the March international window or the 2026 World Cup later this summer.
