Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has insisted that any decision over Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield rests solely with the club and head coach Arne Slot.
Speculation has intensified around the Egyptian forward following his candid post-match remarks after Liverpool’s 3-3 Premier League draw with Leeds, shortly before his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah was an unused substitute in that fixture, fuelling further debate over his role and long-term prospects at the club.
The former Chelsea and Roma attacker last featured for Liverpool in their 2-0 league victory over Brighton on December 13 and has since been linked with a possible move away ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, Szoboszlai declined to offer any insight into the situation, stressing that the matter is out of the players’ hands.
“That’s between me and him. He will come back and then we keep on going. It’s the decision between the manager and the club,” the 25-year-old said.
Szoboszlai also revealed that he has remained in close contact with Salah during his time away, speaking to him almost daily.
“Yes, to be honest, almost every day. We speak about everything. I’m following him, I guess he is following me. We talk a lot.”
Salah has now returned from AFCON and has been named in Liverpool’s squad for Wednesday’s Champions League clash away to Marseille.
