Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed satisfaction following his outfit third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
Nwabali emerged as the hero for the Super Eagles, who triumphed over Egypt on penalties to secure the bronze medal at the continental showpiece.
The Chippa United shot stopper inspired Nigeria’s eighth Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal after saving two penalty kicks from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, ensuring the Super Eagles 4-2 penalty shootouts victory on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca following a pulsating goalless draw.
“I want to thank all the Nigerian people and all the fans who supported us. I am the man of the match and I helped my teammates win and I thank them and they deserve the best. We persevered in our work but thanks go to them.” He told beIN SPORTS:
“We would have liked to go further, but we achieved third place and I am happy with that. This victory was important for us. We came as underdogs, and the coach and players must achieve third place.”
Nigeria finished third for the eighth time in its history at the Africa Cup of Nations. This is the fourth time that the Egyptian national team has finished fourth in the African Cup of Nations, after 1976, 1980 and 1984.
Meanwhile, the West Africa football heavyweights has never lost a third-place game at the Africa Cup of Nations.
