Somalia’s women’s football journey reached another significant milestone as the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Mohamed Abdulqadir, graced a pulsating encounter in the 2025/2026 Women’s Premier League between Al Nasiib and FC Sohora in Mogadishu.
The high-octane match lived up to expectations, producing seven goals in a thrilling 4-3 victory for Al Nasiib.
Both sides displayed remarkable attacking flair and resilience, drawing loud applause from fans and officials present, including the Sports Minister, whose attendance further underlined government support for the women’s game.
The fixture forms part of the inaugural season of Somalia’s Women’s Premier League, a historic competition featuring 10 teams.
As the league progresses, Ilees FC currently sits top of the standings with 24 points, maintaining a narrow advantage over Al Nasiib, who are close behind on 21 points.
FC Sohora, despite the narrow defeat, remain competitive in third place with 16 points and continue to push for a strong finish.
This landmark league has been established under the leadership of Somalia Football Federation (SFF) President Ali Abdi Mohamed, whose administration has taken bold steps to promote inclusivity and development in Somali football.
Notably, the President has ensured that both the men’s and women’s leagues are hosted concurrently in Mogadishu, creating shared visibility and equal recognition for female footballers.
The Women’s Premier League is more than just a competition; it represents hope, empowerment, and opportunity for young girls across Somalia.
As attendance grows and performances improve, Somali women’s football is steadily paving the way for future generations to dream, compete, and excel on the national stage and beyond.
