The AFCON 2025 semi-finals in Morocco produced one of the lowest attacking returns in the tournament’s history, with only a single goal scored across both last-four matches.
It was a night when the nets almost fell silent on the continent’s biggest stage.
In Tangier, Egypt fell 1–0 to Senegal at the Grand Stade Ibn Battuta, Sadio Mané’s strike sending the Pharaohs out and the Teranga Lions into the final.
In Rabat, hosts Morocco and Nigeria could not find a breakthrough over 120 minutes, with the Atlas Lions eventually winning 4–2 on penalties after a 0–0 draw.
Statistics outlet Stats Foot confirmed that this semi-final round set an unprecedented record, with just one goal scored, the lowest tally ever at this stage of an AFCON edition.
Egypt will now meet Nigeria on Saturday in the third-place playoff, their first bronze-medal match since 1984 when they lost 3–1 to Algeria in Côte d’Ivoire.
Senegal, meanwhile, will face Morocco in Sunday’s final, hoping to turn a historically cagey semi-final chapter into a more explosive ending.
