Nigeria and Egypt will meet in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 third-place match at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, after both teams fell just short of reaching the final.
In Rabat, Nigeria’s Super Eagles pushed hosts Morocco all the way in the semi-final at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, but the game remained deadlocked through 120 minutes. A tense penalty shootout saw Morocco prevail 4–2, with Yassine Bounou and Youssef En-Nesyri proving decisive as Nigeria’s hopes were dashed despite a spirited display.
Egypt’s bid for the final ended in Tangier against Senegal. The Pharaohs were undone by a late goal in a scrappy contest, as Senegal’s Sadio Mané struck in the 78th minute to secure a 1–0 victory. Egypt struggled to create clear chances, and Mohamed Salah’s influence was limited as the team’s cautious tactics failed to unlock the Senegal defence.
Now both sides turn their attention to the bronze medal clash on January 17, eager to end their AFCON campaigns on a high note. With pride and continental honours at stake, Nigeria and Egypt will aim to finish strongly in Morocco’s showpiece tournament.
