Algeria international Aissa Mandi has expressed pride in the team despite their tournament ending defeat to Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Desert Foxes were booted out of the continental showpiece on Saturday after succumbing to a 2-0 quarterfinals defeat to Nigeria in a highly competitive clash.
Goals from Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams were enough for the Super Eagles to qualify at the expense of their North African counterparts.
The West African giants has now set up a tie against host nation, Morocco in the semifinals, scheduled for Wednesday.
Despite their elimination, Mandi, who plies his trade for French Ligue 1, Lille has expressed pride in his team.
“I think we can be proud of ourselves in this tournament after being knocked out in the first round in the last two editions.” He told beIN SPORTS.
“Our goal was to rebuild on positive foundations and present a respectable image, which has already been achieved. I believe that the Algerian people see themselves in this team, and we showed spirit and discipline during the tournament.” He said.
Having being booted out of the tournament, the North African outfit will turn their attention to the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
