South Africa Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie hails Morocco’s AFCON 2025 organization
South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, praised the organization of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing it as “exceptional” and fully in line with global standards.
He stressed that the kingdom succeeded in setting a new benchmark for the continent through the quality of its facilities and the professionalism of its management.
In an official letter to Moroccan Sports Minister Mohamed Saad Brada, McKenzie highlighted the six host stadiums in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Agadir, Fez and Marrakech as a model of Moroccan ambition. He pointed to their design, renovation, pitch quality, safety and easy access as key factors that raised the technical level of the tournament and impressed players, coaches and analysts.
McKenzie underlined that this organizational success is strong proof of Morocco’s readiness to co-host the 2030 World Cup. He noted that investments in infrastructure, transport and accommodation, along with organizational efficiency, send a clear message that Africa can stage major global sporting events to the highest standards.
The minister also commended logistics and hotel services, smooth transport and warm hospitality, which enhanced comfort and security for delegations and created ideal conditions for performance. His praise came days after critical remarks by coach Hugo Broos, who said he was dissatisfied with aspects of the tournament atmosphere and organization in Morocco.
