Morocco go into their AFCON 2025 last‑16 clash with Tanzania at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex carrying a powerful historical advantage in this fixture.

Before this knockout meeting, the Atlas Lions and the Taifa Stars had faced each other eight times across all competitions.

Morocco have won seven of those matches and lost just once, scoring in every game and keeping five clean sheets. Tanzania, by contrast, have failed to find the net in each of their last four encounters with the North African side, according to CAF statistics.

The only Tanzanian victory dates back to a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Dar es Salaam, a 3–1 win that Morocco later avenged with a 2–1 home success, though neither team ultimately reached the tournament.

The two nations have met once before at the AFCON finals, in the 2023 group stage, when Morocco ran out 3–0 winners and went on to top their group while Tanzania finished bottom.

More recently, Morocco have completely controlled the rivalry, winning the last five matches, including back‑to‑back 2–0 victories in 2026 World Cup qualifying and a 1–0 triumph in the 2024 African Nations Championship quarter-final.
