National Technical Director Fathi Jamal has stepped in to firmly shut down rumours questioning Walid Regragui’s tactical independence with Morocco.
He categorically denied any intervention by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation in the coach’s choices during the 3-0 win over Zambia, insisting Regragui works with total autonomy.
Despite the convincing victory, whispers suggested the winning game plan had been dictated or heavily influenced by the Technical Directorate after a last-minute meeting. Jamal dismissed these claims as pure fiction, far removed from the reality of daily work with the national team.
To clear things up, he stressed that Regragui is the only one in charge on the bench, fully responsible for tactics and line-ups, while the Technical Directorate only offers support when requested and never interferes in decision-making.
Jamal believes this controversy is an unfair attempt to strip the coach of the credit he deserves, recalling that the successful adjustments against Zambia came solely from Regragui and his staff.
He warned that targeting the coach in the middle of a major competition risks destabilizing the entire squad at a time when unity and stability are essential.
