Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has pleaded not guilty to a sexual assault charge after prosecutors in Norway filed a case against him.

The 18-year-old, regarded as one of Nigeria’s emerging midfield prospects in Europe, was charged with sexual assault in the European country, with his club, Molde suspending him from training and match activities until further notice as legal proceedings continue.

Having pleaded not guilty, the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court has scheduled the hearing for March 2026. Daga’s attorney, Astrid Bolstad, stated that while Daga acknowledges a sexual encounter occurred, he insists it was consensual and denies committing any criminal act. Bolstad also highlighted that there are no claims of violence or threats associated with the case.

Meanwhile, Molde are fully cooperating with the police, attending all interrogations during the investigation.

Daga has since returned to Nigeria but is expected to travel back to Norway ahead of court hearings next year at the Nordmore and Romsdal District Court.

The teenager joined Molde ahead of the 2025 season and made 17 appearances in all competitions, featuring prominently in midfield during his debut campaign in Norwegian football.

As the legal process unfolds, Molde emphasized its intention to act responsibly and ensure fairness and respect for all parties involved.
