Nigeria’s head coach, Eric Chelle, has acknowledged the need for improvement in game management after the Super Eagles opened their AFCON 2025 campaign with a narrow 2-1 victory over Tanzania.
The Super Eagles were made to work hard throughout Tuesday’s encounter before eventually securing all three points at the final whistle. Despite the positive result, Chelle admitted his side struggled to fully put the game to bed, allowing Tanzania to remain in contention longer than expected.
Speaking after the match, the highly-rated tactician expressed satisfaction with the outcome while stressing that lessons must be taken from the performance, particularly in closing out matches more effectively.
“We are satisfied with the three points. That is the most important. For the moment, I want to focus on the positives. The second part of the game shows clearly that there is still some work to be done — especially when it comes to killing the game. We are aware of this, and we will work on it,” Eric Chelle said.
The victory places Nigeria second in Group C with three points, level with Tunisia but trailing on goal difference.
Attention now turns to a crucial group clash on Saturday, December 27, when the Super Eagles face the Carthage Eagles with top spot in the group at stake.
