Relebohile Mofokeng stars as Union SG unveil green third kit
Royale Union Saint-Gilloise have unveiled their new third kit for the 2026/27 season, with South African forward Relebohile Mofokeng taking centre stage in the launch campaign.
The Brussels club has chosen a striking green design for the new strip, produced in partnership with apparel supplier O’Neills. Mofokeng was among the players selected to model the shirt during the official photoshoot, underlining his growing profile since arriving in Belgian football from Orlando Pirates.
The kit launch has been timed to coincide with the centenary of the historic West Stand at Union SG’s stadium. The stand reaches 100 years this weekend, providing the setting for a design that pays tribute to the identity and surroundings of the club’s home.
Its listed facade, known for its historic bas-reliefs, has recently regained its former grandeur after renovation work carried out by the Brussels-Capital Region and the municipality of Forest.
The shirt’s green colour is intended to reflect the stadium’s close relationship with Duden Park, into which the ground is uniquely integrated. The trees around the stadium are also credited with helping create the distinctive views and atmosphere experienced inside the venue.
A further reference to the park appears on the sleeve, where the words ‘Au parc Duden’ have been embroidered. The phrase serves as an additional tribute to a location that has a special place in the hearts of Union supporters.
The partnership with O’Neills has allowed the club to connect the design of the kit with the architectural and natural features surrounding the stadium. Rather than being presented simply as an alternative playing strip, the green shirt has been launched as a celebration of the ground’s history, its setting and the relationship between the club and its supporters.
Mofokeng’s role in the campaign reflects the impression he has made since moving to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. The South African continues to establish himself in Belgian football, and his selection as one of the leading faces of the new kit is another indication of his increasing prominence at the Joseph Marien Stadium.
The release gives Union SG a new visual identity for the forthcoming campaign while marking an important anniversary for one of the stadium’s most recognisable features. With the West Stand celebrating a century and the Duden Park setting central to the design, the club has used the third kit to link its future season with its established traditions.
The launch follows wider interest in South African football, including coverage of Hope FC changing the game in the NFD and Rulani’s reaction to the CAFCL draw.
