Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi stepped into the heart of Zamalek Club on Tuesday, taking charge at a tense moment for one of Egypt’s most storied institutions.
His visit came while serious legal questions surround the club’s land in 6th of October City, placing state authorities and club leaders under intense public focus.
On the same day, the Administrative Court of the State Council postponed the appeal filed by Zamalek president Hussein Labib against the Ministers of Housing and the head of the Hadayek October City Authority. The case, which challenges the decision to withdraw the club’s land, was adjourned to 3 February for further review.
The Public Prosecution had earlier issued a statement confirming that investigations are still underway regarding the October land crisis.
“Violations were detected, including selling parts of buildings before their construction and carrying out activities unrelated to sports,” the statement read, adding that the total value involved reached 780 million Egyptian pounds.
Kooora stated that Sobhi also discussed the Football Company project and Zamalek’s strain, issues now threatening the club’s future.
