Tension behind closed doors pushes Ahmed Hamdi toward January exit

Zamalek’s management is seriously considering letting midfielder Ahmed Hamdi leave in the winter transfer window and putting his name on the transfer list.

The club believes his continued presence has become difficult and wants to avoid escalating problems in the dressing room, while also using his sale to generate much‑needed funds to tackle registration issues and growing debts.

The crisis began three days ago in training, before the Haras El Hodoud match, when a fierce clash erupted between Hamdi and head coach Ahmed Abdel Raouf. During a training game, Hamdi was placed with the youth players against the first team and objected to how the session was going under pressure from the senior side.

Abdel Raouf responded in a sharp tone, telling him to focus and keep his problems with the board away from the pitch, which Hamdi completely rejected, leading to his dismissal from training. He initially refused to leave, prompting the coach to threaten canceling the session until captains Abdallah El Said and Omar Gaber intervened to calm the situation.

After the session, Hamdi insisted to director of football Abdel Nasser Mohamed that he had not made a mistake, but the coaching staff still chose to exclude him and have him train alone. Zamalek now appear intent on resolving the issue quickly by selling him in January, aiming to restore stability before key Egypt Capital Cup and domestic commitments.
