Rapid Vienna are being linked with a move for Stuttgart II right-back Christopher Olivier, with the Austrian-South African teenager emerging as a potential defensive reinforcement.

Reports in Germany and Austria suggest the SK Rapid hierarchy are monitoring the 19-year-old, who currently plays in Germany’s 3. Liga with VfB Stuttgart II. The level of interest has not yet been backed by a clear probability rating, with speculation on Transfermarkt marked simply as “?”, underlining the early and uncertain nature of the talks.

Olivier, valued at around €500,000, is seen as an attainable target in financial terms should Rapid decide to formalise their interest. With no contract expiry date listed for the defender at Stuttgart II, there is no clear indication yet whether he could become a free agent or would require a transfer fee, adding another layer of uncertainty to the situation.

Born on 31 January 2006 in Au, the 1.87m right-back has progressed steadily through the youth ranks. After starting at FC Au’s youth set-up in Austria, he moved to the regional academy AKA Vorarlberg, featuring for their U15 and U16 sides before switching to VfB Stuttgart’s youth system in 2022. Promotions from Stuttgart’s U17 to U19 and then to Stuttgart II in 2024 highlight a player on an upward trajectory.

Comfortable on the right side of defence and preferring his right foot, Olivier combines the pedigree of Austrian development football with experience in Germany’s competitive lower leagues. His dual nationality – Austria and South Africa – may also appeal to Rapid Vienna, who have a history of developing young players with diverse backgrounds.

If Rapid do push ahead with a move, a switch to the Austrian Bundesliga could provide Olivier with a significant step up in profile and competition, potentially shaping the next decisive phase of his career and raising his reputation on both the Austrian and South African football radar.
