Former Egypt coach El-Sayed insists ‘the whole country is with Mohamed Salah’ over Slot row
Former Egypt assistant coach Diyaa El-Sayed has declared that the entire Egyptian nation stands firmly by Mohamed Salah during his current dispute.
The legendary forward is embroiled in a public row with the management at Liverpool. El-Sayed insists that the player’s home country remains committed to supporting their icon during this turbulent period.
This wave of national solidarity comes as Salah prepares to lead his country in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The tension escalated after Liverpool manager Arne Slot recently dropped the striker for a Champions League victory against Inter Milan.
Slot admitted this benching was a direct response to Salah’s outburst against him and club directors at Leeds.
Despite the friction, Salah was recalled to the starting lineup for Saturday’s Premier League win over Brighton.
El-Sayed, who has mentored the star since his teenage years, believes the public reaction has been unprecedented.
“This interview was like a revolution in Egypt,” El-Sayed, who has known Salah since he was 16, told BBC Sport.
“99% of Egypt supports Salah, and you can see from the reaction at Anfield that the Liverpool fans support him too.”
When questioned about the apparent farewell to the Anfield faithful, the former coach offered a reassuring perspective. “Take this from me that it’s just goodbye for now,” he added. He believes the bond between the player and the club will survive this current storm.
