French-Beninese Jules Kounde hails decisive brace for Barcelona in win over Frankfurt
Jules Kounde celebrated a defining European performance on Tuesday night after scoring twice to guide Barcelona to a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
The French-Beninese defender produced two clinical finishes as Barcelona strengthened their push toward the tournament’s top eight, delivering one of his most influential displays in the competition this season.
Kounde said the win carried major weight for the squad’s ambitions.
“Very happy with the victory. These are three very important points on our path to entering the top 8. Today was my day and I’m very happy.”
Barcelona controlled large stretches of the first half but fell behind against the run of play when Frankfurt converted their only clear chance. Kounde acknowledged that the opening period lacked urgency and conviction in key moments.
“We controlled the first half, they scored on their only chance, but we lacked risk-taking. More intensity with and without the ball.”
The tone changed immediately after the interval as Barcelona produced a sharp, high-tempo push that turned the match in their favour.
Kounde struck twice within the first three minutes of the second half, capitalising on defensive gaps and lifting the hosts’ confidence.
“In the second half, especially the first 15 minutes, we shifted into a higher gear and scored two goals. We could have scored more, but we had to suffer.”
Barcelona held firm in the final stages as Frankfurt searched for an equaliser, with Kounde’s defensive composure matching his attacking impact. His performance earned praise from teammates, including Pedri, who highlighted the defender’s commitment and recent form.
“He works hard, he deserves it, it will do him good, I’m happy for him. I’m sure he didn’t want to finish the second one, but I’ll ask him.”
