Paris FC president Arnault confirms lingering interest in French-Malian N'golo Kanté

Paris FC president Antoine Arnault has openly acknowledged the club’s ongoing desire to sign midfielder N’Golo Kanté. The veteran French World Cup winner was heavily linked with a sensational move last summer.

The transfer interest surfaced following Paris FC’s successful promotion campaign to the top flight. Kanté, a legend at Chelsea, came close to departing his current Saudi club, Al-Ittihad. Arnault confirmed that the French club remains highly motivated to bring the esteemed ball-winner back to Ligue 1.

The president reflected on the missed opportunity with palpable disappointment. Securing a player of Kanté’s stature would have provided a major boost to the newly promoted side.

Kanté, who holds Malian heritage through his parents, was reportedly keen on the switch to Paris. However, his current employers ultimately blocked the potential transfer. Arnault detailed the frustration over the failed move in an interview with L’Équipe.

Arnault stated, “It’s a shame he didn’t come; I was disappointed about that. I think he also wanted to move, but his club didn’t allow it.”

The president expressed respect for Al-Ittihad’s decision, despite the setback. He believes Kanté’s presence would have significantly benefited the squad’s performance. Arnault speculated on the substantial impact the midfielder would have made immediately.

“We respect the decision, but it’s a real shame: having N’Golo on the team would have created a significant momentum and perhaps allowed us to gain five more points in the standings.”

Arnault admitted that active negotiations are currently dormant. However, he strongly suggested that Paris FC has not completely closed the door on a future deal.

The club may reignite their pursuit of the experienced player, celebrated for his relentless work rate and ability to stabilize the midfield.
