Ernest Poku set to join Besiktas from Bayer Leverkusen

Ernest Poku is reportedly set to join Besiktas after making a late change to his transfer plans.

The Bayer Leverkusen winger had appeared close to completing a move to Fiorentina, but the Dutch attacker has now chosen the Turkish club instead.

Several Turkish reports, including A Spor and journalist Ertan Süzgün, claim that Besiktas have already reached an agreement with Poku over personal terms. The Istanbul side want to sign him initially on loan, with an option to buy included in the proposed deal.

Under certain conditions, that purchase option could become mandatory. Should Besiktas complete a permanent transfer after the loan, Poku would reportedly sign a further four-year contract with the Turkish club.

The final agreement between Besiktas and Leverkusen was still pending, although the Bundesliga club have since given the move their approval. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the latest development and reported that Poku is expected to travel to Istanbul for his medical examination.

Fiorentina had previously reached an agreement with Leverkusen and could have paid up to €23 million for the 22-year-old. However, Poku reconsidered his destination and decided against moving to Italy.

His medical will be the next key step before the surprising transfer can be completed.
