Nigerian striker Christantus Uche faces crucial season at Crystal Palace

Getafe president Angel Torres has confirmed the Spanish club are seriously thinking about ending Christantus Uche’s loan spell at Crystal Palace ahead of schedule.

The Nigerian forward moved to Selhurst Park on a season-long deal in the summer, with a mandatory purchase option included if certain performance-related conditions were met.

Those conditions now look unlikely to be triggered, as the forward has struggled for minutes in the Premier League and has made just four league appearances for Palace so far. With his development at risk of stalling, Getafe are monitoring the situation closely and weighing up recalling him to the Coliseum.

Torres admitted there is still “room” for circumstances to change over the coming weeks but left the door open for Uche’s return to Spain. “He’d be welcome back if he returns,” the Getafe president was quoted as saying, a clear sign that the La Liga side still see long-term value in the young striker despite his difficult start in England.
