Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker hopes to end year out of relegation quagmire
Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has set sights on steering his outfit out of the relegation quagmire before the year ends.
The Stellies are third from bottom of the South African Premiership standings, accumulating just 14 points after 14 matches into the campaign.
As the team gears up for the crucial game against seventh placed Polokwane City at the Athlone Stadium, Steve Barker has affirmed determination to move out of the relegation drop before 2026.
“Looking at the log table, it’s an area we want to get away from, and I’ve always said that getting back-to-back wins in the league is really important. After beating Orbit College, it’s important for us at home to follow that up with another three points against Polokwane City,” Barker told his club website.
“Ending the year with a positive result is massively important to us. It’s a massive game and opportunity for us against a good, solid team who have shown over the last couple of seasons that you have to play well to beat them, and they have some really good strengths that they play to,” he said.
“But the match against Polokwane City is a massively important fixture for us to get through first.”
