Serie A club Napoli have added four names to their midfield shopping list amid growing doubts over a January move for Kobbie Mainoo.

The club views strengthening Antonio Conte’s engine room as a priority and continues to assess alternatives should their pursuit of the Manchester United youngster fail.

Mainoo, who has Ghanaian heritage, remains Napoli’s preferred choice, with sporting chiefs exploring a possible loan-to-buy structure.

However, indications from Manchester suggest United are unwilling to sanction his departure midseason, prompting the Azzurri to accelerate contingency plans ahead of the winter window.

Reports from Il Mattino state that Napoli will maintain dialogue with United but are simultaneously expanding their options.

West Ham midfielder Soungoutou Magassa has emerged as a serious name on their radar, with his athletic profile seen as a strong match for Conte’s high-intensity approach.

Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi is also reportedly under consideration, offering a younger and more versatile alternative.

The Italians are not limiting their search to emerging prospects. Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka, whose future has occasionally come under scrutiny, is viewed as a high-calibre option should circumstances allow a deal.

Atalanta’s Ederson, one of Serie A’s standout performers, is another candidate admired by Napoli’s hierarchy, although his valuation could prove challenging.

Napoli remain intent on securing reinforcement in January as Conte reshapes his midfield.
