Nigeria international Akor Adams has expressed his disappointment following Sevilla’s home defeat to Real Betis in the Spanish La Liga.

The 25-year-old started and played full throttle of the match, as his outfit succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Real Betis at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Sunday.

Sevilla made an impressive start to the match. However, the dynamics of the game changed after Marcao went off injured.

Moments later, a mistake from Mendy gifted Betis possession, leading to Pablo Fornals’ opener in the 54th minute. Coach Matías Almeyda responded by bringing on Isaac Romero and Alexis Sánchez in hopes of turning the game around, but Betis struck again through Sergi Altimira.

Adams pushed for a late comeback, forcing saves from goalkeeper Valles and another block from a defender, but Sevilla could not find a breakthrough.

And according to Adams, the defeat felt like “a slap in the face” for the team and fans.

“We can’t lose like this… it’s not just a defeat, it’s a slap in the face at home.” He added that Sevilla had long periods of control and chances but failed to convert, saying “there are no excuses.”

The striker admitted the defeat was mentally draining for the squad and supporters. With a Cup match ahead and a league meeting with Valencia, he stressed the need to “look ahead” and recover quickly.

Adams’ goal drought now stands at seven games, having last scored on October 5 against Barcelona.
