Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey reveals Victor Osimhen’s interest in Premier League
Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has revealed his Nigeria teammate, Victor Osimhen, is interested in playing in the English Premier League.
Osimhen was a top transfer target for Premier League clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea, but ended up joining Galatasaray on a permanent deal.
Both Chelsea and Manchester United were keen about securing the signature of the Nigeria forward, but could not meet his wage demands, while Napoli’s €75 million valuation also stalled negotiations.
In a breakout season, Osimhen racked up 37 goals in 41 appearances for Galatasaray during his loan spell before joining the club on a permanent switch in the summer.
Since joining Galatasaray on a permanent deal, the former Napoli attacker outstanding, racking up crucial goals for the team.
After scoring 37 goals in 41 games in a breakout season, Osimhen returned to Galatasaray in the summer and has continued to shine for both club and country.
However, the enterprising Nigeria defender has eulogized his compatriot for his exploits for club and country, noting that what he has done for the national team and in the Champions League is “amazing… a deadly striker.”
When asked if the Osimhen truly wants a move to England, Bassey confirmed Osimhen’s interest. “He said yes, he is interested in the Premier League… It’s a good league — the most-watched league in the whole world,” he said.
Both players are expected to reunite soon as part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
