'Picking Ibrahima Konate should be a sackable offence for Slot' - Carragher blasts French-Malian defender

Jamie Carragher says Arne Slot’s decision to keep selecting Ibrahima Konate has reached the point where it should be considered a “sackable offence”.

The former Liverpool defender delivered the scathing verdict after Liverpool’s 4-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven, a result that intensified pressure on the under-fire manager.

Konate, who has Malian heritage despite representing France internationally, has become a focal point of criticism during Liverpool’s alarming collapse in form.

Many supporters believe the centre-back’s performances have contributed significantly to the team’s defensive instability.

Carragher unleashed his frustration in a blunt message on social media, insisting Slot should be held accountable for persisting with the defender.

“Honest to god, I’ve had enough of them. That Konate, I mean, that’s a sackable offence for the manager for f******g keep picking him. He should be sacked for that,” he said.

Liverpool’s season has dramatically unravelled, with the champions losing nine of their past 12 matches.

The heavy defeat to PSV deepened concerns about Slot’s tactical approach, with the team looking disorganised and devoid of confidence. Defensive lapses, structural issues and poor transitions have all contributed to the Reds’ slide.

The club now face a daunting Champions League schedule. Liverpool must travel to Inter Milan and Marseille before hosting Qarabag at Anfield in their final group fixture.

Qualification is no longer guaranteed, and any further setback could plunge Slot’s tenure into greater turmoil.

Slot is also under immediate pressure to deliver in the Premier League. Liverpool meet West Ham United on Sunday in what has quickly become a must-win match.

Failure to secure three points could accelerate calls for change, with supporters already questioning whether Slot can halt the club’s slide.
