Celtic weigh Emam Ashour deal as Al Ahly midfielder attracts interest

Egyptian midfielder Emam Ashour, who currently plays for Al Ahly, has been linked with a move to Celtic. The 28-year-old remains under contract with the Egyptian champions until 30 June 2028, and no transfer has been confirmed.

Ashour’s market value is listed at €5m, placing him among the more significant potential departures from Al Ahly. He joined the Cairo club from Danish side Midtjylland in July 2023 in a deal worth €2.68m.

The central midfielder has made five appearances for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup, scoring twice. He played in every match listed for his side, starting all five games and completing 76% of the available minutes.

Ashour has also helped establish a successful spell at Al Ahly, winning the CAF Champions League in the 2023-24 season and an Egyptian league title in 2023-24 and 2024-25. He was the Egyptian Premier League’s leading scorer in 2024-25 with 13 goals.

His club record includes 157 Premier League appearances, with 36 goals and 25 assists, while he has added five goals and six assists in 40 CAF Champions League matches. Al Ahly’s contract position means Celtic would need to negotiate a permanent transfer rather than wait for Ashour to become a free agent.
