‘It will be the club’s decision’ – Glasner on English-Ivorian Marc Guehi’s future amid Liverpool chase

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says any move involving Marc Guehi will depend entirely on the club, stressing that the defender remains fully committed despite mounting interest from Liverpool.

Guehi, who is of Ivorian heritage but represents England internationally, has long been admired by the Reds, and their pursuit intensified after a late £35 million bid collapsed on Deadline Day.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is expected to revive that interest in January as he seeks defensive reinforcements for a back line that has already conceded 17 goals in 11 league matches.

Glasner, however, refused to be drawn into transfer speculation during his press conference. “I don’t know. Again, it will be the club’s decision. Marc shows every week that he is 100% committed to Crystal Palace,” he said. He added that his focus remains on the upcoming fixtures, saying it “makes no sense” to shift attention towards the January market with a packed schedule ahead.

Sky Sports reports that Palace believe Liverpool are the only club likely to lodge a mid-season offer, a stance that strengthens Slot’s hopes of securing his preferred target.

The champions have been forced into defensive reshuffling after summer signing Giovanni Leoni picked up a long-term injury, leaving a significant gap heading into a critical phase of the season.

Guehi, whose contract expires in the summer, is viewed within Liverpool’s hierarchy as an ideal fit for Slot’s style and system.

His performances for Palace have remained consistent, and his leadership at the back has been particularly valued during a challenging opening period for the club.
