Karim Coulibaly: Frankfurt in Germany linked with move for centre-back

Frankfurt are being linked with a move for highly rated Werder Bremen centre-back Karim Coulibaly, as the Bundesliga rivals assess options to strengthen their defences.

Data from Transfermarkt lists the potential switch from Bremen to Frankfurt as a rumour with a probability of 19% as of 20 November 2025, underlining that any deal remains at a speculative stage. Coulibaly, valued at €8.00m, is regarded as one of Bremen’s most promising young players and any negotiations would likely be shaped by that rapidly rising market valuation.

The 18-year-old, a left-footed central defender standing at 1.91m, holds German and Côte d’Ivoire nationalities and was born in Oldenburg on 23 May 2007. He moved from Bremen’s Under-19 side to the senior set-up in July 2025 after joining from Hamburger SV’s youth system a year earlier. His market value has surged since the summer, rising from €1m in August 2025 to €8m by mid-October according to Transfermarkt’s records.

Both Bremen and Frankfurt compete in the Bundesliga, and Coulibaly’s profile – tall, left-sided and still at an early stage of his career – makes him an attractive long-term project for clubs seeking to refresh their defensive options. No contract expiry date is listed for the defender, leaving his medium-term situation at Bremen unclear and, in theory, raising the possibility of him becoming available as a free agent further down the line if no extension is agreed.

Coulibaly’s development has taken him from Bramfelder SV Youth and HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst Youth, through multiple age groups at Hamburg, and now into the professional environment at Bremen. A move to Frankfurt, should it materialise, would represent the next step in a fast-moving career and could significantly influence his reputation and pathway at the top level of German football.
