Arsenal move to secure England-Nigerian talent Ethan Nwaneri with long-term contract

Ethan Nwaneri is reportedly among four players transfer-listed for January, with Arsenal ready to reshape Mikel Arteta’s squad despite their position at the top of the Premier League table.

The club intends to adjust its options during the winter window, aiming to create space after last summer’s heavy investment.

Nwaneri, who is of Nigerian descent, is expected to be loaned out to gain regular minutes.

According to the Daily Mail, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus headline the group of players Arsenal are willing to move on.

Saudi Pro League clubs have registered interest in Martinelli, while West Ham are monitoring Jesus with hopes of keeping him in London. Both forwards remain valued, yet Arsenal are prepared to consider suitable offers.

The report adds that Ben White could also depart if the right opportunity arises. White, once a consistent starter under Arteta, is no longer viewed as indispensable, increasing the likelihood of a mid-season exit.

Arsenal’s decision reflects a desire to streamline a squad that was significantly expanded during the previous window.

Nwaneri is the youngest member of the group likely to leave in January.

Arsenal believe the 18-year-old midfielder requires consistent senior football to accelerate his development, something he has not received this season. A loan move is viewed as the best pathway for his progression.

The motivation behind these potential departures is rooted in Arsenal’s substantial summer spending.

The club invested £250m in new signings, bringing in Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze. That outlay has created the need for a leaner and more balanced squad.

Arteta remains focused on maintaining competitiveness across all fronts, but the January window will be used to manage depth and address areas where game time has become limited.
