French-Algerian forward Karim Benzema hints at possible France return if Zidane takes charge

Karim Benzema has suggested he could consider a return to the France national team, signalling renewed openness to an international comeback if Zinedine Zidane replaces Didier Deschamps.

The Al-Ittihad striker, born in France to Algerian parents, indicated that the prospect of working again with his former Real Madrid manager has influenced his thinking.

Benzema told AS that Zidane’s credentials remain unmatched.

“I think he has everything it takes. He proved it at Real Madrid. There’s another coach now, but I think Zidane is the number one.”

“The national team is a bit far away, but you never know. I’m focused on what I have now.”

The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner also reflected on his Saudi Pro League experience, emphasising he did not view the move as a step toward retirement.

“When I signed, I had just won the Ballon d’Or that season. It wasn’t the end of my career; I wanted to play and continue enjoying playing football. I feel very good at this club.”

Benzema further highlighted the league’s ambition and the role established stars must play in its development.

“Saudi Arabia needs players like Cristiano or like me, or like others who came here to give them something of what we have in Europe,” he said.

He added that life in Saudi Arabia has suited him well, describing the nation as welcoming and increasingly open. “People are polite in their daily interactions. It’s a great place for me,” he said.
