Egypt national team plagued by injuries ahead of Cape Verde clash
The Egyptian national team is facing a wave of fresh injuries just days before their crucial match against Cape Verde in the international Al Ain Cup, held in the UAE.
Coach Hossam Hassan and his staff reported three new injuries: Hamdy Fathy suffered a calf muscle issue during warm-ups before the Uzbekistan game; midfielder Ahmed Mostafa Zizo has tendon pain near his knee, and striker Salah Mohsen is dealing with a hamstring problem.
Given a string of existing absences in November’s camp, including Mahmoud Trezeguet, Ibrahim Adel, and others, Egypt must adapt quickly. Even starting goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy is sidelined, while Omar Marmoush missed the last game due to personal commitments.
Despite these setbacks and a tough 2-0 loss to Uzbekistan, Hassan insists there were positives, praising new faces Marwan Osman and Mahmoud Abdelhafiz “Zalaka” for their efforts. He remains optimistic about Egypt’s CAN 2025 prospects, urging fans to trust and support the team through adversity.
Egypt’s continental hopes are high as the team prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, aiming to lift the trophy for an eighth time. The “Pharaohs” are ready to give their best, even with a depleted squad, and keep their dreams alive as they open their campaign against Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Angola.
